Origins I know that we are staring global extinction in the eyes, but I beg you, find another way. The creatures of Earth reject this for a reason, they know what darkness you risk bringing upon us all. You will just delay our end, and change it from a mercifully swift burst into a slow, agonizing collapse. Please, let my brother rest.”
”Fifty years ago, my brother learned a terrible secret. Daisuke was a man who wanted to save the world, make it up to the humanity that our nation inflicted such great strife upon a short time ago. But in his efforts he stumbled upon something absolutely horrifying, the antithesis of life itself. A weapon which would make the nuclear bomb seem tame was at his fingertips, and he tried to reject it with all he could. But just discovering its existence uncaged the beast, and even if he never created the weapon, what he was stuck with might as well have been the dreadful weapon that only existed in his tortured mind.
-Ishiro Serizawa, head of the GDF’s kaiju research division, before the United Nations, 2004.
Daisuke Serizawa was a young Japanese scientist, a chemist. After his father Eiji died in World War 2, he sought to bring prosperity to the world after learning just what horror the lack of it brought. In his research on oxygen he discovered a way to compress its molecules down, creating denser pockets of the vital gas. This would allow oxygen tanks to be made smaller and more efficient, create controlled environments where animals could grow larger in size to stave off world hunger, and so much more. Deeming it Micro-Oxygen, he continued his research further, seeking to find what else he could accomplish off of this baseline.
A decision he regretted heavily when he discovered a way to annihilate oxygen altogether. What he called Anti-Oxygen reacted harshly when it came into contact with the vital gas, splitting its atomic bonds apart violently enough to cause explosions as it rendered the surrounding air unbreathable. Organic tissue was corroded instantly. He believed a pellet of the material the size of a baseball could render a major city uninhabitable. Only a few particles in an aquarium grade fish-tank slaughtered every fish inside. He burned his notes on it immediately after this test, returning to more beneficial ventures, but it was already too late.
There was something which could actually survive Anti-Oxygen. A microbial crustacean from the Precambrian era, which had grown in environments completely lacking oxygen. Some had latched onto one of the fish placed inside the tank, completely unnoticed and inconsequential until being struck with the strange compound. It was then that they mutated, merging together to form larger bodies.
Daisuke was horrified at what he had created, a nightmare swimming within his laboratory. He tried to poison it, tried to heat the water to a boil, but neither did anything to the new lifeform. At any moment it could leave, he knew this, so in a panic he kept it placated with animal sacrifices as he worked on a way to eliminate it. What he eventually came to the conclusion of was that if he fed it a gigantic surplus of oxygen, it would cause it to detonate. And so, he condensed oxygen down as much as he could into a sizable pellet, intent on feeding it to his creation.
This was interrupted by the city of Tokyo being ransacked. Not even a full decade after WW2’s conclusion, and Japan found itself being devastated. But not by human hands, instead a colossus from a bygone age and afflicted by the same radiation that had torn into the nation. Gojira was relentless, devastating the metropolis with nuclear fire and muscle more powerful than the finest steel. The weapons of humankind were powerless against the beast, nought more than biting gnats.
Daisuke Serizawa was torn. The only way to save his nation, and perhaps the world, from great destruction was at his fingertips. But did greater catastrophe await if he utilized the darkness bestowed upon him? Pressured by his closest friends who he let slip the secret to, he decided to destroy Gojira. But what he did not tell them was what he intended to do afterwards.
Destoroyah, now the size of a great white shark, was released into the Tokyo Bay where Gojira slept. It tore into the colossus, inflicting great agony upon her, growing in size as it absorbed her dissolved biomass into itself. As this occurred, Serizawa, hiding the “Nano-Oxygen” pellet, dived into the waves. Destoroyah, having rendered Gojira such a ravaged mess of dissolved tissue and bone as to where death was assured, changed course to devour its creator. It recognized that his presence meant food, and in its primitive mind that meant he was food.
He had burned all his notes on Anti-Oxygen, but the secret still lived inside himself. He could be tortured to reveal the path to global destruction, and that was a possibility he could not allow. And so, with his demise he erased the last traces of it with one action.
Or at least, so he thought.
What he did not know was that the body which tore into him and subsequently detonated with the surplus of oxygen ingested into it was not the totality of the entity. In Gojira’s dissolving remains there were remnants, single microbes which burrowed into the marrow and remained there, feeding for the decades to come. Destoroyah’s return was inevitable, in a form far beyond what he had seen.
But their actual return was far worse than what any could have seen.
In the year 2000, Godzilla disappeared from all sight after vanquishing Orga. In his Super Godzilla form, the result of injecting King Ghidorah’s cells into his body, he tossed himself into the ocean. For four years, none could find him, many wondering if he had died due to the torturous transformation.
The United States of America, the nation which had brought Godzilla into existence with their nuclear weaponry in the first place, was torched and destroyed utterly when he returned. He was no longer Super Godzilla, but instead had become Burning Godzilla, the result of far too much energy coursing through him causing a volatile reaction. In addition to the clear and present danger of his own power, which had turned the most powerful nation on Earth into a slag heap without effort, there was the fact that he had put the world on a one-way road to doomsday. Either an explosion that would punch a hole into the planet, or a meltdown which would irradiate the entire globe.
The GDF, knowing that none of their weapons would stand a chance before the apocalyptic king, resorted to measures they had always considered but never hoped to utilize. Digging into Tokyo Bay’s soil, they unearthed the corpse of Gojira, intent on pulling the secret of Serizawa from its bones. They would create the Oxygen Destroyer that he had only dreamed of. But the planet refused.
Kaiju all across the world attacked GDF facilities, rejecting the usage of that abomination against life itself. Even without that, there was much internal strife and tension over such a decision, knowing that such a thing could lead to humanity’s death anyway. Unfortunately, it was already too late, the truth of what was hidden in those bones unknown until the last moment.
Some of the kaiju never left after their attacks, crushing a remnant of Gojira’s body only to be afflicted by the curse hidden inside them. Elsewhere, the revitalization caused by GDF experiments caused the microbes to coalesce and utilize their power, ripping through their bonds and commencing wretched slaughter. Destoroyah’s return had begun. As the world watched in fear of Burning Godzilla, a wave of death rose unexpectedly. And they were all heading towards the same place, where the warriors of Earth had gathered.
An army of kaiju and GDF weaponry awaited Burning Godzilla. Either his closest allies would convince him to accept death, or a cataclysmic battle would rage for the world’s fate. Unfortunately, they would never meet him. For the hordes of Destoroyah descended upon them, a swarm of wretched beasts of various sizes and shapes assailing the defenders of life. Good was triumphing, the antithesis of life unable to gain ground against such a gathering of the mighty. However, that was not what they sought.
They had absorbed Gojira’s essence into themselves, supercharging themselves and imbuing within them great power. But it also left them with remnants of her mind, scattered and ruined beyond all repair, but still there. And it was this that drove them towards her spawn, Godzilla Junior.
One Aggregate successfully leapt onto him, driving its jaws into his body and ingesting a massive quantity of dissolved biomass. This initiated a shift within its body, a catalyst being ignited. As Godzilla Junior writhed in agony from those wounds, the horde dissolved into their microbial states, all flowing like water towards the one which was undergoing a mutation. With this new essence, anti-life reached godhood.
Instead of a swarm, one being stood before the army, towering and horrifying. Destoroyah, in its perfect state, changed the tide of battle in an instant. Godzilla Junior was nearly split in half by the grotesquity puppeting his mother’s corpse. Anguirus and Rodan, Godzilla’s closest friends, were literally crushed. Mothra was eviscerated. Mechagodzilla’s firepower was worthless, and its nanometal body was corroded utterly. King Kong tried with all his might, holding closed the foul chasm shielded by bone spikes upon its abdomen, but his strength faltered before absolute death and his entire body was erased by a blast which slayed half the army just from its presence. A mountain of corpses was what greeted Godzilla when he arrived, stood upon by Destoroyah.
The battle which ensued initiated the 6th mass extinction. Burning Godzilla and Destoroyah collided in the single most destructive kaiju event yet, two beings doing damage that entire armies of colossi would fail to replicate. Their beams collided and caused such tremendous blasts as to begin a nuclear winter. Intense radiation and Anti-Oxygen billowed out in such tremendous supplies as to render whole continents unlivable. And with its flight, Destoroyah took the fight across multiple nations, ensuring death was not focused on one specific location. The two gods of devastation were on equal footing, neither gaining ground.
Until Destoroyah took Godzilla back to the place where their battle had begun. There, he saw Junior still lived, barely clinging on to life despite the gaping wound in his torso. The emotional stress of knowing his offspring would have to endure more suffering sped the king’s internal condition up, bringing him into a hypercritical state. The antithesis of life found itself completely overwhelmed by its foe’s new power, unable to mount an offense as its body was shredded asunder. Feebly it shrieked in terror and rage, its own power meaningless in the face of this ultimate state of the king of destruction. Grasping Destoroyah, Burning Godzilla tossed the aberration into the air, releasing a column of supreme power from his back which completely annihilated his foe. His mate could now rest, her shambling corpse erased.
And with his dying breath, he ensured the world would remain, his son inheriting his godlike power to protect the ravaged Earth and ensure that what remained of life could one day see the Sun again.
Physical Description
The microbes which made up the basis of Destoroyah bore crimson shells, and resembled trilobites, only with far thicker legs, forelimbs ending in claws, and a lengthier tail that ended with a pincer.
Aggregates varied greatly in size and shape, simply being collections of the microbes, and thus their appearance simply depended on the number of microbes and what was needed at the time. The only consistencies were piercing, yellow eyes, red and purple armor, along with a rough and brutal appearance bearing spikes and sharp edges all across their forms. Crimson wings like a demon’s let some fly, while others had thick, crab-like claws covered in lacerating blades. Spider-like legs with barbed stingers on their ends, mandibles with numerous layers, horns protruding from the skull, the list went on and on as the hordes adapted and shifted.
Destoroyah’s Perfect Form was a nightmarish colossus. In build it resembled Godzilla, due to structuring itself with the DNA of his mate and child. A skeleton modeled off of Gojira’s supported it, visible with the bone-white spines which protruded out of its back, jagged and coarse. Its head resembled Gojira’s, only twisted and vile. A lengthy, crocodilian maw filled with needle-like teeth numbering in the thousands exhaled mist which corroded organic tissue. The same eyes as before rested in the skull, pure yellow and lacking remorse. A gigantic crest like a dual-sided battle-axe framed the head, shimmering whenever energy was channeled to the head. A gigantic horn protruded from the top of the skull, curving upward.
Four muscular arms extended out of its sides, the upper pair bearing four-clawed hands while the lower had a crustacean’s mighty claws. Destoroyah’s legs were gigantic, spikes sprouting out all across them. Dozens of wretched blades decorated the feet. Two pairs of massive wings erupted from its back, dark-purple bones connected by a membrane like an open wound. Between the wings and the spines, two gigantic limbs like a spider’s legs waved, capable of bending forward to lacerate foes before Destoroyah. Stretching behind the lord of death was a lengthy tail, terminating in a hellacious pincer. Embedded in the chest was a chasm, enclosed by spikes of bone which could open to unveil its most devastating weapon.
Personality
Before its encounter with Gojira, Destoroyah was a simple creature. No different from the primitive mindsets of its components. After that fateful day, however, there was a notable shift. They had not only absorbed the power of the monster queen, but also fragments of her mind. Her pain and hatred for the world, but deprived of the context and greater complexities of a developed mind. This left the microbes only feeling a blind and seething madness, fury at all life for fury’s sake. This gave them a particular inclination towards Godzilla and Godzilla Junior, them taking up a significant portion of Gojira’s thoughts, but without the context that it was in love that she thought of them, this gave Destoroyah a volatile obsession and hatred for the two.
Powers
Anti-Oxygen: The compound which fuels and powers Destoroyah, a strange substance discovered by Daisuke Serizawa in his research of oxygen. This destroys any oxygen it comes into contact with, violently so, and dissolves organic matter with perfect efficiency and lethality. The Aggregates and Perfect Form released it constantly, the latter eternally draped in a sheet of the deadly compound as a fog.
Microbial Physiology: Due to being made of countless living microbes coalesced, Destoroyah’s Aggregate forms could constantly shift and contort to create new bodies to adapt to any situation. They could also break down and reform in different bodies. The Perfect Form was not as flexible, but could dissolve into an army of Aggregates and reform at any point.
Energy/Biomass Absorption: The microbial crustaceans could reproduce asexually by consuming energy, meaning that any wounds dealt to the larger bodies could be repaired by devouring a portion of the foe. This also gave them the potential to absorb DNA and use it to their advantage, however only the DNA of Godzilla’s species was strong enough to be usable without being utterly destroyed in the process.
Oxygen Destroyer Beam: The primary weapon of the god of death, a purple stream of Anti-Oxygen fumes that was heavily deadly to anything it struck, corroding organic and inorganic matter. In its Perfect Form, this stream would condense down into a laser-like attack after a few seconds of sustained usage, carving clean through a target no matter its durability.
Flight: Wings were a common adaptation of Aggregates, allowing them an average max flight speed of Mach 4. The gigantic wings of the Perfect Form allowed flight of up to Mach 6, both states aided by jets of Anti-Oxygen acting as the primary propellant.
Anti-Oxygen Mines: In its Perfect Form, Destoroyah could fire violet spheres of energy which drifted through the air, until interacting with oxygen, at which point they would detonate violently enough to rip the average kaiju in half. They would launch themselves towards any sources of oxygen, usually that within a foe’s body, making them a brutal and effective weapon.
Oxygen Destroyer Comet: The god of death’s spines could discharge a gigantic sphere of energy, bright purple and resembling a comet as it shot down towards the nearest organic creature. The resulting explosion was too much for anything short of Burning Godzilla to survive, and even then he only survived due to his insane regeneration.
Variable Slicer: The horn upon the zenith of death’s head could be charged with energy to form a crimson blade. Its swing was not stopped by any material, Burning Godzilla’s survival only continuing due to being able to regenerate fast enough to avoid being sliced in half. Its cut also left Anti-Oxygen in the wound, dissolving any who somehow survived it.
Pincers: With both the claws on the end of its tail and on its secondary pair of arms, Destoroyah could either discharge volatile energies into a target or drain their energy. These were also highly powerful pincers capable of breaking bones stronger than titanium, coated in lacerating spikes to maximize damage.
Mors Omnis Vitae: The chasm within Perfect Form Destoroyah’s chest could open to unleash a calamitous beam. The charge up of it releases enough Anti-Oxygen to kill off most kaiju near Destoroyah, let alone the attack itself. A colossal ray of golden lightning surrounding a dark-green and purple stream, this attack is the ultimate weapon of the antithesis of life. The destruction it unleashes on the environment is akin to entire wars between armies of colossi, even before one accounts for the aftermath. Burning Godzilla would have perished had this beam struck him before he entered his hypercritical state, ensuring the end of all life on the planet.
