Hi, my doctor just informed me the gender of my baby from the MaterniT21 Plus test taken when I was at week-10 (+3 days). I asked him whether it's accurate and he replied it's a commercial test and he went by their published probability rates. I was hoping that he would answer based on his experience with patients who took the test and have ultimately confirmed the accuracy of their babies' gender based on 20-week ultrasound, etc. May I ask if any mums who did the MaterniT21 Plus test had a baby whose gender is different from what's shown by the test? Many thanks

I can't answer your direct question but the genetic counselor at GIVF told me the accuracy for presence of a Y is very high. It doesn't tell you if you have an XXY problem but if it says Y, you have a boy.

OP - I think they only just started telling people gender in the past couple of weeks, so it's possible that people haven't made it to 20 weeks yet!

Thank you! We are not sure if we should make our purchase of baby clothes based on this test results as there wasn't any Y-chromosome detected...

It's a girl! I'd be quite sure.
To the PP, none of M21 can be used for twins.

if you're worried, just wait to purchase baby clothes until it is confirmed. It's not like there is going to be a run on the baby clothes!

The materniT21 said it's a boy and the tech at the 20 week ultrasound said the same.

I'd just hold off until 20 week ultrasound to buy clothes (or buy gender neutral stuff). Alternatively - buy the girl clothes, and just don't wash them and keep the receipts until you get confirmation via your ultrasound.

Hmmm -- the genetic counselor at Fairfax told me that the detection of the Y chromosome should be about 98% accurate. That is pretty good, I think!

We were told there was no y chromosome and the 20 weeks ultrasound confirmed it. Incidentally, I mentioned the tech at the 20 week scan that we thought we knew the sex due to the M21 and she said those results are very reliable.

My sister just had her 20 week sonogram that confirmed she is carrying a girl. Her genetic counselor said the MaterniTi21 test was 99% accurate.

My MaterniT21 said I was having a boy, but my 20 week ultrasound very clearly showed a girl. The genetic counselor told me that I am not the only one who has reported to their office that the gender results of their blood test were not accurate.

^^^ wow, really??? This is shocking to me. I would think if it can test number of chromosomes it should be able to accurately tell if there is a y!!!

My OB told me it had 99% accuracy. I guess 21:36 is part of that other 1%.
